Requirements

Experience leading or mentoring engineers and helping people grow in their careers.
Deep hands-on experience building and shipping Android apps in Kotlin, with familiarity in Java, using modern Android architecture and Jetpack libraries.
Experience building and shipping React Native apps and understanding the native-to-React Native bridge, including native modules, platform APIs, and the cross-platform layer.
Understanding of Android internals, including app lifecycle, memory management, threading, concurrency, and performance profiling.
Knowledge of computer science and engineering fundamentals, including concurrency, data structures, architecture, and design patterns.
Ability to break complex, ambiguous problems into smaller, deliverable pieces and bring a team along through execution.
Ability to communicate clearly across product, design, and engineering, in writing and conversation.

Responsibilities

Lead and coach a team of 3–6 engineers building native Android features inside Canva’s React Native app, support their growth, ship high-quality work, and raise the bar for mobile engineering.
Work through technical challenges with the team involving native modules, lifecycle and memory management, performance, and the bridge between Android and React Native.
Partner with product, design, and platform teams to shape the roadmap and drive planning and refinement of cycle goals.
Champion performance and stability across the stack, including startup time, jank, memory, and crash rate, and build a culture focused on engineering craft.
Own the delivery of large, cross-team initiatives end-to-end, from ideation to completion, with autonomy to make decisions.
