    The Financial Accountant is responsible for assisting Finance Leadership positions in the preparation, coordination and delivery of statutory and regulatory financial reporting, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards, legislation, and Council policies. The role has a focus on asset accounting and provides expert financial advice, supports audit processes, and contributes to the integrity and continuous improvement of Council’s financial systems and practices.

    Key Responsibilities
    Assist in preparing and coordinating Council’s annual financial statements, working papers and statutory returns.

    • Responsibility for periodic liaison with key asset owners to review financial asset depreciation rates, remaining asset useful lives, annual disposals, completed projects and instances of impairment.
    • Responsibility for the coordination of asset class revaluations, including engaging internal and external specialists, compilation of information and data, verification of data against relevant systems, calculation of revaluation movements and reserve balances, collation and input of data into Council’s fixed asset register, and analytical reviews/reconciliations.
    • Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports, and provide timely, relevant information to internal and external stakeholders.
    • Maintenance and management of Council’s financial fixed asset register.
    • Support year-end and interim audit processes on both general financial and asset-specific matters.
    • Represent the Finance Services Business Unit on council projects. Provide direction and support in respect of budget and funding options and analysis. Provide advice to project proponents on corporate finance policy. Identify and advise on corporate budget impacts.

    About You

    • Degree Qualification in Accounting, Business or Finance or comparable experience
    • Demonstrated substantial experience in an Accounting environment
    • Demonstrated ability to interpret and implement Legislation, Guidelines and Policies
    • Demonstrated intermediate competence in the use of Microsoft Office Software (or equivalent)
