JOB DETAILS
The Role
We are looking for engineers to work on the design of HV substations, transmission lines and renewable connection assets and we are open to all levels of experience. What matters most isn’t how many years you have spent in primary systems; it’s how you think. If you are technically minded, motivated to learn, and excited to improve how problems get solved through technology, data and research, we want to hear from you.
If you already have deep primary systems experience, you will hit the ground running and help shape technical direction. If you do not, but you bring the right mindset and a strong engineering foundation, we will teach you the rest. Either way, the kind of work you will be involved in includes:
- Substation configuration and busbar arrangements (single, double, breaker-and-a-half), plant layouts, sections and details
- Busbar and conductor sizing, short-circuit forces, clearances and insulation coordination
- Earthing and lightning protection design, EMF and corona studies
- HV equipment specification (transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, isolators, reactive plant) and HV cable design
- Transmission line electrical design
- BESS, solar and wind farm balance of plant and integration
- Coordination with secondary, civil and structural disciplines, and construction/commissioning support
- Finding better ways to do all of the above — applying data, research and new tools to improve how we design and deliver
About You
Above everything else, we are looking for the right person, not a checklist. You are:
- Technologically minded – you reach for data, tools and first-principles thinking, and you are curious about how things can be done better
- Motivated to learn – genuinely keen to pick up new concepts, including primary systems if that is not yet your background
- Innovative – keen to improve how we solve problems from a technology, data and research point of view, not just repeat the standard approach
- Committed – willing to go the full mile and a bit extra, and invested in Enervia’s objectives
On the technical side, you will ideally bring:
- A tertiary qualification in Electrical or Power Engineering (or a closely related discipline)
- A solid engineering foundation and the ability to pick up new technical domains quickly
- Experience in primary/substation design is a strong advantage – but not essential. If you have the mindset and the fundamentals, we’ll teach you the specifics
- Chartered Engineer status (Engineers Australia), or working towards it, is welcomed but not required for every level
