JOB DETAILS
As a Protection Relay Engineer, you will play a key role in the commissioning, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of protection and control systems across a variety of high-voltage power system projects.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Commissioning, testing, and maintenance of HV protection systems and schemes.
- Configuration, testing, and troubleshooting of IEC 61850 and GOOSE communications.
- Testing and commissioning of HV substations, secondary systems, and primary plant.
- Commissioning and maintenance of HV/LV electrical assets.
- Testing and commissioning of power generation systems and power transformers.
- Providing technical leadership, supervision, mentoring, and training to field technicians and junior engineers.
- Preparing commissioning documentation, protection test plans, and detailed technical reports.
- Supporting project delivery while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, schedule, and budget requirements.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A Bachelor of Electrical Engineering recognised by Engineers Australia.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in protection systems, testing, and commissioning.
- Strong understanding of power system protection principles and relay technologies.
- Experience with IEC 61850 and GOOSE messaging highly regarded.
- Experience using the Omicron suite for protection and secondary systems testing.
- Knowledge of relevant Australian Standards, industry regulations, and electrical safety requirements.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- A demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
