    Primary objective
    To undertake audits and investigations in accordance with the Building Act 1993 into registered building practitioners and
    unauthorised building works under the direction and guidance of the Manager of Audits and Investigations.

    Key duties and responsibilities
    1. Conduct audits of registered building practitioners in accordance with the Building Act 1993 and relevant policies and

    procedures.
    2. Investigate, document, and resolve complaints and other matters referred to, or initiated by, the Director of Building

    Control or by the Building Practitioners Board.
    3. Prepare briefs of evidence, reports, and recommendations in relation to investigations and audits in a timely manner.
    4. Provide evidence in court actions, and/or appear before the Building Practitioners Board and the Building Appeals Board

    as required.
    5. Assist the Building Practitioners Board in the conduct of inquiries.
    6. Provide authoritative advice to building practitioners and the public in relation to the complaint investigation and

    performance audit processes and building dispute resolution. Provide advice regarding referrals to other agencies where
    appropriate.

    7. Complete administrative and data processing tasks associated with investigations, audits, and case management.

    Selection criteria
    Essential
    1. Proven experience undertaking audits and/or investigations in a regulatory environment or other relevant administrative

    experience.
    2. High-level analytical and conceptual skills and the ability to apply and interpret legislation within a statutory

    environment.
    3. Experience in, and an ability to, negotiate positive outcomes from dispute situations.
    4. Demonstrated high-level communications skills including report writing, cross cultural advocacy and mediation skills.
    5. Proven organisational and time management skills with the ability to operate within statutory timeframes.
    6. Proven ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion, and work cooperatively in a team environment.
    7. Current NT Driver’s Licence or ability to obtain one.

    Desirable
    1. Qualification or training in investigations, auditing, or a law-based discipline.
    2. Knowledge of the legislation administered by Building Advisory Services.
