JOB SUMMARY
Key Responsibilities
– Develop, implement, and monitor engineering strategies, policies, and operational plans to support organisational objectives and drive long-term performance
– Lead, mentor, and manage engineering teams, fostering a high-performance culture built on accountability, collaboration, and professional growth
– Interpret technical plans, drawings, and specifications, providing clear guidance and expert advice on engineering methods and procedures to meet construction and production requirements
– Establish and manage project schedules and budgets, tracking progress and taking corrective action where necessary to keep delivery on track
– Ensure all engineering activities conform to relevant specifications, plans, legislation, regulations, and safety standards, maintaining a strong culture of compliance and due diligence
– Uphold and continuously improve engineering standards across quality, cost, safety, timeliness, and performance, identifying and resolving issues proactively
– Oversee maintenance planning and scheduling to optimise operational efficiency and minimise downtime across facilities and equipment
– Collaborate closely with marketing, research, manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams to provide engineering input into new construction projects and product design initiatives
– Drive risk identification and mitigation processes across engineering projects, ensuring potential issues are assessed and managed before they escalate
– Contribute to and support research and development projects, bringing technical rigour and practical insight to innovation initiatives
– Manage relationships with external contractors, consultants, and suppliers, ensuring deliverables meet organisational standards and contractual obligations
– Prepare and present engineering reports, updates, and recommendations to senior leadership and key stakeholders
Required Qualifications & Skills
– Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, or a closely related discipline, recognised in Australia
– Substantial experience in an engineering role, with demonstrated progression into a leadership or management capacity
– Strong understanding of engineering principles, project management methodologies, and technical standards relevant to the industry
– Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams, manage competing priorities, and deliver outcomes in a fast-paced environment
– Sound knowledge of relevant Australian legislation, safety regulations, and industry compliance requirements, including WHS obligations
– Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex technical information and translate it into practical direction
– Confident communicator with strong written and verbal skills, capable of engaging effectively with technical teams, senior management, and external stakeholders
– Experience in budget management, resource planning, and project scheduling
– Proficiency with engineering software tools, project management platforms, and standard productivity applications
Preferred Qualifications
– Postgraduate qualification in Engineering Management, Project Management, or Business Administration
– Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status with Engineers Australia, or eligibility to obtain it
– Certification in project management frameworks such as PMP, PRINCE2, or Agile methodologies
– Experience in a specific industry sector relevant to the organisation, such as civil, mechanical, electrical, or structural engineering
– Familiarity with lean manufacturing, continuous improvement methodologies, or quality management systems such as ISO 9001
– Prior experience contributing to research and development programmes or new product introduction processes
