Requirements
- A degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar field.
- An active Commonwealth Security clearance.
- At least 7 years of experience in a similar role.
- Experience architecting complex software while adhering to requirements and using a structured verification approach.
- Proven experience as a Software Engineer with a comprehensive project portfolio.
- Hands-on experience with unit and integration testing, comprehensive documentation, and API design and development.
- Familiarity with Python, C++, TypeScript, and JavaScript.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team while adhering to development processes.
Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for large and complex areas of the software architecture for multiple software systems.
- Own the software development schedule and report to project and customer stakeholders.
- Develop modular, readable, and robust code for defence systems in Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and C++, adhering to security and functional requirements.
- Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, systems design, agile development, review, test-driven development, integration, and verification.
- Present design details during customer reviews to participants with and without software engineering knowledge.
- Collaborate with software and other engineering disciplines, as well as management, to ensure comprehensive coverage of requirements efficiently.
- Mentor less experienced software engineers in best-practice development and debugging techniques.
- Write and maintain internal and deliverable documentation, either directly or through supervision of contractors.
- Provide engineering support to manufacturing as required.
- Participate in demonstrations to share knowledge.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working on defence projects.
- Comfort with source control and continuous integration/continuous delivery systems.
- Experience working in Agile environments, including Scrum or Kanban.
- A background or strong understanding of user interface and user experience design principles.
- Exposure to or hands-on experience with DevOps practices and toolchains.
- Experience with containerization using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Ability to read, interoperate with, and understand lower-level firmware running on embedded systems.
