Key Responsibilities
1. SCADA System Design & Integration
- Support the design, configuration, integration, and commissioning of SCADA systems for utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.
- Review and validate SCADA architecture, communication networks, signal lists, interface control documents (ICD), and point mapping schedules.
- Configure and troubleshoot communication interfaces between SCADA, EMS, PPC, PCS, BMS, Gateway RTU, protection relays, meters, and auxiliary systems.
- Coordinate with internal R&D teams, SCADA vendors, EMS suppliers, and third-party integrators to ensure successful system integration.
- Support implementation and validation of communication protocols including Modbus TCP/IP, DNP3, IEC 61850, OPC UA, and MQTT where applicable.
2. SCADA Commissioning & Testing
- Support factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), commissioning, and operational readiness testing of SCADA systems.
- Verify point-to-point communications, alarm functionality, event logging, historian data, control commands, and system performance.
- Perform troubleshooting of communication failures, signal quality issues, time synchronization problems, and control system interactions.
- Support AEMO hold point testing activities, including validation of SCADA interfaces associated with AGC, FCAS, dispatch targets, ramp rate controls, and plant availability signals.
- Assist with testing and validation of DNP3 quality flags, communication failover logic, heartbeat monitoring, and remote-control functions.
3. Control System & Grid Integration Support
- Coordinate integration between SCADA, EMS, PPC, Gateway RTU, and external market/operator interfaces.
- Support implementation and validation of:
- AGC (Automatic Generation Control)
- FCAS / PFR functions
- Ramp Rate Control
- AVR / Reactive Power Control
- Voltage Droop Functions
- Dispatch Target Processing
- Availability Calculations
- Assist with troubleshooting control logic issues during commissioning and performance testing.
- Support compliance activities related to AEMO, NSP, and Generator Registration requirements.
4. Documentation & Quality Assurance
- Review and maintain:
- SCADA Functional Design Specifications (FDS)
- Interface Control Documents (ICD)
- Communication Matrixes
- Point Lists
- Test Procedures
- Commissioning Reports
- Defect Registers
- Technical Change Requests
Qualifications and Skills
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Control Systems Engineering, Automation Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 2ā5 years of experience in SCADA, EMS, control systems, renewable energy, or utility-scale infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of:
- SCADA system architecture
- Industrial communication protocols
- Power system monitoring and control
- Utility-scale BESS operation
- Network communications and cybersecurity fundamentals
