Requirements
- The candidate must have emotional intelligence and a calm, self-assured leadership style.
- The candidate must be able to manage and build diverse teams, build consensus and understanding, and communicate technical information to non-technical employees and stakeholders.
- The candidate must have experience as an Engineering Manager in a technology, product, or creative company.
- The candidate must have senior-level engineering experience and/or people-management experience in a technology or start-up environment.
- The candidate must bring an organised, methodical, and detail-oriented approach to work.
- The candidate must have deep hands-on engineering experience relating to user interface work or development of custom, in-house rendering technology.
- The candidate must have experience in low-level engine or rendering development or user interface/user experience work closer to the user.
- The position requires full-time, on-site availability in the Hobart office.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coordinate, and align diverse engineering functions.
- Deliver feedback and take part in reviews and performance management.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external partners and relevant third parties.
- Perform hands-on engineering work, including coding.
- Support interdepartmental cooperation for product and feature releases, ongoing updates, and patches.
- Work directly with team leads and the executive to align product, quality assurance, testing, and research and development functions around communication, leadership, and goals.
- Create and oversee project timelines and milestones to improve sustainability and efficiency in the development process.
- Guide a small team of engineers to develop and ship mission-critical features, solve complex technical problems, define project parameters, improve development efficiency, and nurture internal engineering talent.
- Contribute to the code base as an individual contributor while leading, managing, and guiding junior engineers.
- Work with engineering, executive, and other department members to align engineering with critical business functions.
