JOB SUMMARY
Key Responsibilities
– Analyse organisational structures, functional statements, and project documentation to clearly define worker roles, responsibilities, and areas of operational overlap or duplication
– Design and implement work measurement programmes, collecting and evaluating work samples to establish reliable standards for labour utilisation and productivity benchmarking
– Review workforce deployment, facility layouts, production schedules, and cost data to determine optimum efficiencies across people, equipment, and processes
– Identify inefficiencies and bottlenecks within existing workflows and recommend evidence-based improvements aligned with business objectives
– Develop and maintain process documentation, standard operating procedures, and workflow models to support continuous improvement initiatives
– Lead and contribute to lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies to reduce waste and increase throughput
– Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, logistics, maintenance, and finance to design and implement engineering solutions
– Conduct time-and-motion studies, capacity analyses, and cost-benefit assessments to support strategic decision-making and resource planning
– Monitor and evaluate the performance of implemented changes, using key metrics to measure outcomes and adjust approaches where necessary
– Prepare and present detailed technical reports, findings, and recommendations to management and relevant stakeholders
– Support the design and optimisation of facility layouts to maximise space utilisation, safety, and operational flow
– Assist in budgeting and forecasting activities by providing accurate data on operational costs, labour requirements, and process efficiencies
Required Qualifications & Skills
– Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a closely related discipline
– Demonstrated experience in an industrial engineering or process improvement role within a commercial, industrial, or production environment
– Strong proficiency in work study methodologies, including time-and-motion analysis and labour utilisation modelling
– Solid understanding of lean principles, process mapping, and continuous improvement frameworks
– Proficiency in data analysis and the ability to translate complex datasets into clear, actionable recommendations
– Experience using engineering and analytical software tools such as AutoCAD, Microsoft Visio, or similar platforms
– Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with ERP or production management systems
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences
– Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail, with a structured and methodical approach to analysis
– Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver outcomes within defined timeframes
– Knowledge of relevant Australian workplace health and safety legislation and standards
Preferred Qualifications
– Postgraduate qualifications in Engineering, Operations Management, or Business Administration
– Certification in Lean, Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher), or equivalent process improvement methodology
– Experience working within a large-scale manufacturing, logistics, or industrial operation
– Familiarity with simulation software such as Arena, AnyLogic, or similar modelling tools
– Knowledge of Industry 4.0 technologies and their application to operational improvement
– Membership with Engineers Australia or another relevant professional body
